SELF SABOTAGE (& how to stop getting in your own way)
Dec 09, 2022Most people experience a lot of anxiety as they attempt to do something NEW
creative
pure.
It can get pretty intense sometimes!
Sometimes it can get so intense...
that it causes us to sabotage ourselves.
Some people do this by changing their mind every 3 days... (never seeing their projects through)
Others will make GREAT progress!
for like a week...
and then just stop and let that momentum die.
Many will work very hard...
but on completely unessential tasks that never really move the needle forward.
I have been known to do all of that!
And it's because quite simply...
It's a difficult thing!
To put yourself out there.
If you are finding yourself doing this, trust me you're not alone my friend.
And yet... this pattern of driving your car with one foot on the gas
and the other one on the brakes
MUST stop if you are to succeed.
and don't worry... it can :)
I'll share with you what has helped me tremendously...
It's something I've observed my buddy Aaron Doughty do very well...
and it's this...
Aaron doesn't ever get hung up on any one project.
Because his mindset is always...
"Let's wrap this up... so I can move on to the next thing"
Aaron is a YouTuber, so that is his creative passion.
But Aaron doesn't publish a video and obsesses over how many views he gets.
He also doesn't waste mental energy trying to make everything perfect.
In fact, I've vacationed with him many times and have seen him actually make mistakes in his videos.
He doesn't miss a beat.
He doesn't get frustrated.
He doesn't even stop to re-do it!
Like water off a duck's back, he just keeps going, never giving it a second thought.
I honestly believe that this healthy relationship Aaron has with his business is why he has nearly 1.5 million followers.
and earns millions of dollars every year
making a MASSIVE difference in the world.
Imagine if Aaron was always getting in his own way?
Imagine the crazy number of people that wouldn't be benefiting from his work?
Now imagine this...
How many people would be benefiting from YOUR work if you stopped getting in your own way?
Drop the perfectionism my friend.
It's not helping you
and it's not helping anyone else.
Here's a case in point...
I am not sure the best way to end this email. lol
So I'm just gonna cut it right here...
Peace!
